It was odd that Detroit GM Joe Dumars would decide to fire head coach Michael Curry after o ne season. The start of free agency is hours away, which makes this mood even more of a shock. I know that a lot of Detroit fans will be upset about this move. Curry got the Pistons to the playoffs with a 39-43 record, but ended up getting swept in the first round.
I believe that Dumars has been one of the best Gm's in the NBA, but some of his recent decisions has me wondering what's he doing. First off, trading Billups for Iverson was a horrible trade from the beginning, everybody could see Iverson is not a starter anymore. Than he expects that his aging team is still capable to go deep in the playoffs, and makes no big roster moves during draft night to rebuild. Now, with the firing of Curry before free agency begins could of have potential players wondering if this is a organization they should be getting into at this time.
We've also seen recent reports that Dumars and Richard Hamilton has been beefing. I'm confused at the direction this team is going, are they rebuilding, or are they adding on. If they are adding on, they sure haven’t started off right. I thought they would of blown-up the team, and started from scratch. Maybe Dumars knows something we don’t and will be pulling off some big moves this off-season.
